Good news on the wildfire south of Chain Lakes in the MD of Ranchland today as the fire is now 80 percent contained.
Lynn Daina information officer for Alberta Forestry says there was no growth yesterday.
"There is no open flames visible," said Daina. "So stay tuned this afternoon because we are making good progress on that 100 percent containment. When that occurs we can likely change the status on it."
They were able to GPS the fire yesterday and it measures 1536 hectors.
"So that doesn't constitute any growth yesterday but it is just an accurate GPS reading from what we had."
They also have 84 new firefighters on scene, 12 overhead teams, seven graders, three excavators, one skidder and a group of municipal firefighters with three wildland trucks and seven crew members.
"There is an inversion causing a little bit of smokey conditions, hopefully that lifts fairly soon and we get a clearer picture of what is going on by air."
