It's been a slow start to the WPCA season for High River's Jordie Fike.

An injury to one of his leaders has made the first few races a bit of a challenge while he works new horses into his line-up.

But after some trial and error, Fike says he's feeling confident heading into his hometown show starting Thursday night.

"Things are starting to look up. I'm more confident now in my new lineup's than I was a couple of weekends ago. Hopefully the longer track in High River is going to showcase a little more of the run I have in the barn and keep us picking up in the standings."

Fike sit's 29th in the World Driver standings.

Okotoks Mark Sutherland is 16th, while High River's Jason Glass is third, a mere six-and-a-half points back of Kurt Bensmiller in top spot.

Fike comes off barrel three in the second heat to open the four nights of racing.

He's hooked with Chad Harden off the one barrel, Troy Flad off two and Cody Fraser off four.

The chucks run through Sunday at the High River Rodeo Grounds.
