The Calgary Flames lose the battle of Alberta in overtime to the Edmonton Oilers 5-4.

It was a pretty slow first period with both teams having less than 10 shots, Calgary at five and Edmonton at six. There was one lone goal in the period thanks to Andrew Mangiapane. The Flames had a 1-0 lead going into the second period.

It was a busy second period. The Flames kept up the heat early heading into the frame with Mikael Backlund scoring 5:41 into the period. Shortly after Darnell Nurse of the Oilers was able to sneak one past Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom to make the score 2-1. Just over two minutes later, Jesse Puljujarvi tied it up making it 2-2. The Oilers took the lead thanks to Zach Hyman, but the Flames would not let them have the lead for long. 15 seconds later Johnny Gaudreau tied it up for the Flames before Calle Jarnkrok sent it by Oilers goalie Mike Smith to make the score 4-3 for the Flames. Evan Bouchard was able to score before the end of the period for the Oilers to tie it up at four goals apiece.

The third period was much slower than the second, there were zero goals in the period, Edmonton had 14 shots while Calgary had seven.

He had a quiet game in the first three periods, but Connor McDavid changed that in overtime. Five minutes into the extra period McDavid sniped a shot past Markstrom to clinch the series and move into the next round.
