The town of High River lived up to its name again on the weekend.

Joan Pletz with the town says heavy rains forced the town's Emergency Operations Centre into action. She says "There was some localized flooding but it (the river) just came up so fast and we wanted to take all necessary precautions and get a jump on, if the situation got worse, if the situation worsened, we'd be ready for it."

"It did peak at 1 p.m. at 300 cubic metres per second for flow." Pletz says, "That's when we start worrying about flooding and now it's already down to as of about 10 o'clock this morning it's at 161 cubic metres per second so it's dropped significantly already."

She says the Highwood River is continuing to drop although with another deluge of rain expected Tuesday they'll continue to monitor its status.
