The Flood Advisory for the Highwood River from the Town of High River to where it meets the Bow River has been changed to a Flood Warning.

A release from Foothills County defines Flood Warnings as:

"Rising stream levels will result in flooding of areas adjacent to the streams affected. Anyone situated close to the river should take appropriate measures to avoid flood damage."

No evacuations have been ordered at this time, though residents and businesses close to the affected area should consider voluntarily seeking higher ground.

The county's Public Works department has also made sand and sandbags available to those who need them.

They advise that county employees are not providing assistance in filling or placing sandbags.

Those wanting to request sand and sandbags can call (403) 652-2390.

In a video from Monday afternoon, High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass advised locals who may be experiencing renewed trauma from past floods to contact High River FCSS.

They're located in the Culture Centre and are open from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, and can be contacted at (403) 652-8620.
