It's a special night for members of the Foothills Fire Department, as they'll hold an awards presentation dinner tonight for the first time ever.

Deputy Fire Chief Gregg Schaalje says there's a lot planned for the evening, held at Spruce Meadows.

He says "what we're doing is bringing in firefighters from all five our stations, from Longview, Cayley, Blackie, Heritage Pointe and Priddis for a night of celebration of all the achievements over the past year."

Schaalje adds the night will be extra special for a few firefighters.

He says "our Alberta Emergency Services medal will be given out, which is given out to firefighters who have served 12 years or more in the Fire Service in Alberta. There are other special presentations happening tonight as well, but we're keeping them a surprise."

Schaalje, who had a big hand in organizing the night, is very excited for members of the Foothills Fire Department to get the recognition they deserve.

He says "it's a night of celebrating the achievements our firefighters have made throughout the year and before that as well, so we definitely want to the spotlight to be on them, because they're the ones who make us move forward and we're so proud of them."
