The Foothills are well represented in the YYC music awards this year.

As Calgary’s premier music event, the awards show shines a spotlight on artists from one of Canada’s most vibrant and eclectic music scenes.

Locals who've been nominated this year include Okotoks-based Kelsey Raine, High Rivers Craig Carswell as well as a few former locals including Steve Pointmeier.

This will be Kelsey Raine's fourth time making it into the People Choice Award selection. She is in with her experimental Alice in Wonderland themed project called Alice Awake.

Country musician Steve Pointmeier is known in and around Southern Alberta. His latest song Sway (available everywhere) is a collaboration with friend and fellow musician Clayton Bellamy. It is in the runnings for Country Recording of the Year and Single of the Year.

High Rivers Craig Carswell has his name all over the awards. His studio RedBlack Recording is up for Recording Studio of the Year but also has his name in for Pop Recording of the Year with a selection of other artists with the song Better Than Before. Rock Recording of the Year with his band Dorians Mirror, as well as the producer for metal band SYRYN which is up for Group of the Year and Metal Recording of the Year.

"I have to say a massive thank you to the YYC Music Awards," Carswell said on social media after finding word of his three official nominations. "Good luck and a huge congrats to all nominees. [I] can’t wait to see you all in person finally again."

SYRYN features guitarist Byron Gorieu who attended the Foothills Composite High School as well as lead singer Sloan Voxx. Sloan organizes the Decimate Metal Festival in High River.
