October 16, 1919 — October 11, 2016

Hazel passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Hospital Long Term Care at the age of 96.

Hazel was born in Chilliwack B.C. and was raised and went to school in the Conrich area east of Calgary. In 1949, she married Neil Giles and moved to the farm north of Vulcan. The farm was her life and worked beside Neil growing crops, raising purebred Herefords cattle, chickens, turkeys and pigs. Hazel always had a big garden and loved to work in it. Hazel was greatly involved in the community with the Sunshine Club, 4-H, Rebekahs, teaching Sunday school and working with the UCW for Lions supper.

Hazel and Neil moved to town in 1995 and she was at Peter Dawson Lodge and then to Long Term Care in 2014.

Hazel's family always came first and she always wanted to know what her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were up to. She was always concerned about the rain, the heat, the crops and the pasture as any farmer does.

She always had a great love of sports and loved to watch them. She had a great knowledge of all sports and loved the Blue Jays!

She will be sorely missed by her family and by the many lives that she touched.

She is survived by her daughter Kay (Bill) Slemko of Hussar and son Allan (Kaye) Giles of Vulcan, her grandchildren Heather Lyons of Springbank, Kevin (Barb) Slemko of Hussar, April (Charles) Kuntz of Claresholm, Christine (Wyatt) McMorris of Milo and Amanda (Scott) Clark of Vulcan and 10 great grandchildren: Hannah and Justin Lyons, Erin and Jason Slemko, Drew and Hailey Kuntz, Easton and Ryan McMorris and Autumn and Bella Clark. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Neil in 2004.

A Private Family Service was held in Hazel’s honor.
