High River chuckwagon driver Jason Glass says Saturday's accident that killed 3 horses and sent fellow driver Tyler Helmig to hospital could have been prevented. He says he's not pointing fingers at drivers.
But at the track conditions that led to the accident. Glass says the biggest problem is race officials wouldn't take care of the track to the satisfaction of the drivers and because of the conditions it was impossible to race 3 or more wagons wide forcing drivers to jockey for position along the rail. Glass says that's still no excuse for getting too close, but he's not pointing fingers at any one driver. The Stampede suspended kelly sutherland for Sunday's finals. Helmig is in hospital with a broken hip. But is expected to recover. Whether or not he'll ever be able to race again is still up in the air.
