Heartland, the CBC family drama, starts filming season 17 this week in Alberta.

Crews started Monday, May 8 and filming is expected until August 23.

Heartland, starring Amber Marshall is the longest-running one-hour drama in Canadian history.

When the shows were available for streaming on Netflix it hit the top 15 however it's now only available for streaming on CBC Gem.

Last year, the show was watched for 18 billion minutes making it one of the most streamed series in the States.

They will be filming in the Foothills again including at the iconic Maggie's Diner in High River. 

The first episode of the new season will be the 250th episode in the long running series. 

10 one-hour episodes will be produced this year for season 17.
