Over a thousand people have voted in the advance polls so far in the town of High River.

CAO Chris Prosser says there was one person working the polls who was found to have COVID.

"Symptoms showed up the next day and that individual went in for testing immediately and found out they were positive, they informed us, we started our protocols regarding notification of the public as well as the people who worked alongside them as a close contact and we did our best to make sure that everybody was advised of what's taken place and look out for symptoms for themselves."

Prosser says he voted Thursday and things are running very smoothly with lots of polling stations, social distancing, everyone was masked and everyone was respectful of others' personal space.

The first day of advanced voting, last Thursday, Oct. 7, saw the largest turnout with 428 people casting ballots.

There were 317 people who voted early on Friday, Oct. 8 and another 291 on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The total came to 1,036.

Advance polls are open again Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Cargill Field House.

He says safety is paramount and they want people to feel safe as they exercise their democratic right to vote and asks voters to be patient adding if the advance polls are any indication Monday could be very busy.

Polls are open Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
