The Calgary Stampede has announced who will fill their prestigious position as Stampede Parade Marshal this year.

In an effort to celebrate women in western culture, the Calgary Stampede has chosen High River's favorite actress Amber Marshall to the lead the parade.

Marshall is a celebrity in High River and around the world playing Amy Fleming in CBC's hit drama "Heartland," which is filmed in High River and other areas around the Foothills.

Dana Peers, President and Chairman of the Board of the Calgary Stampede says Marshall represents everything western living stands for.

"Amber represents and promotes western heritage and values both on and off the screen. She is a role model to many young viewers and I believe she portrays a very positive message,” says  Peers “As we salute women in western culture, I am proud Amber will be the 2019 Parade Marshal.”

Marshall says she is beyond proud to be representing other women of the west in the parade as well.

"Being immersed in the western lifestyle has given me a true admiration for women in western culture,” says Marshall. “Their strong, independent, and hardworking attitudes are something I have always looked up to. I am honoured to be this year's Parade Marshal for the Calgary Stampede, representing all women in western culture."

Marshall was born and raised in London, Ontario and now runs a working ranch with her husband.

Both are also actively involved in the rodeo circuit.
