Highway 2 and 338 Avenue open house is the last chance to have your say

The last chance to weigh in on the Highway 2 and 338 Avenue interchange is coming up tomorrow (Oct. 26.)

Alberta Transportation, the Town of Okotoks, and Foothills County are collaborating on a functional study to build an interchange at the local intersection.

The project is now in the final phase of functional planning work, and an open house is to be held tomorrow to present the draft plan and gather feedback from the public.

The proposed interchange is intended to remedy the heavy traffic in the area, as well as the safety of the current intersection.

This isn't the project's first engagement opportunity, but ISL Engineering general manager of transportation, Alana Getty Somers, says input is still valued at this stage.

"Public feedback has already been taken into account in coming up with the draft recommended plan, but we are holding a second event for that purpose, to share the information and receive feedback. If there is something that could be done to improve the plan or refine it, that's what we're looking for."

The planning stage should wrap by the end of the year, and after that, Getty Somers says there's no set date for construction.

"Upon approval of this plan, then recommendations from this study are considered for future construction and design work based on overall provincial priorities and provincial funding."

The open house will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Crystal Ridge Golf Club in Okotoks.
