The Highwood Curling Club in High River is finally able to get back on the ice this fall.

The slabs of concrete under the curling ice and small ice rink at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex were torn up and replaced over the last year and a half.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the Town is trying to help the club out.

"We're allowing the curling club to lease the space for $1 this year after all the construction and everything and being shut down for last curling season so (we're) giving them a break on their rent so they can rebuild their membership again."

He says there's still some work to be done in the main lobby area downstairs but the ice is back in.

The town had used a $1.7-million grant from the province for the project which came in at just over $2 million.
