Hundreds of people spent the day Saturday at the Rec-Plex in High River.
Either taking in, or being a part of the festivities of the first ever "Hockey Day in High River."
Wildrose Alliance Party Leader Danielle Smith was in town and says hockey has always been a big part of her life.
She says "I come from a hockey family. My dad was a coach, my brothers played hocked. Now my nephew plays hockey. My nieces play ringette so we've always been a pretty strong hockey family following of course the Oilers and the Flames over the years as well. So I know how excited everybody in this community would be if they were able to get those teams here."

If the town is successful in their bid to be "Hockeyville 2011" they'd see $100,000 in arena upgrades, an NHL game played at the Rec-Plex and even Don Cherry would come to town.
