Huge crowd takes in High River Fire Hall Open House

Over 600 people turned out Saturday May 7 for the High River Fire Department's open house.

It was the first time they had the chance to show off the renovated fire hall since they got into it last fall and Fire Chief Cody Zebedee says it went really well.

"Our Grand Opening and Open House was a huge success, even bigger than what we'd anticipated which was great, had tremendous support from the community coming out and checking out the building and to speak to us, a great opportunity," Zebedee says. "We had lots of things to see other than fire trucks, we had RCMP here and our Peace Officers along with Peggy, one of the dogs from Canada Task Force 2, we also had the Salvation Army food trailer and the Livestock trailer from the (Foothills) County."

He says they got a wide variety of questions from people who attended the open house about daily activities at the fire hall and with emergency planning which was timely considering last week was Emergency Preparedness Week.

"One of the big things we want to do is extend a heartfelt and humble thank you to out Mayor and council, past and present who were both here for, we called it a ribbon cutting but it was a hose cutting," he says.

Chief Zebedee also wanted to send out thanks to the Salvation Army of High River, Kinsmen Club of High River, Sobey's, RCMP, Clayton and Peggy from Task Force 2, Rotary Club of High River, the Town of High River Family and Community Support Services, Foothills Emergency Services Program, the Town of Okotoks Fire Department, Town of High River Fire Department, Protective Services, our staff and their families, Foothills County and Daphne Thornton as well as other Town departments that provided their assistance.
