One man is in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound North of Okotoks on Tuesday morning.

At around 9:00 a.m. on December 15th, officers from the Turner Valley, Okotoks, and High River RCMP detachments responded to the report of a hunter having been shot.

The incident took place near 80th St. East, by the Bow River, North of Okotoks.

EMS and Foothills Fire personnel also responded, with the man being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

He remains in critical but stable condition.

A 62-year-old Calgary man, who was alleged to have also been hunting in the area, was arrested at the scene.

He's facing a charge of careless use of a firearm and was released to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on February 5th, 2021.

The name of the Calgary man has not been released, as the charge has not been formally sworn.

RCMP confirm the two men were not known to one another.
