Today is International Women's Day so I stopped in at the Museum of the Highwood yesterday to talk to Irene Kerr about some of the women that pioneered and helped shape High River.

Wow, is Irene ever a fount of knowledge.

She had some pieces from a former display called "The Missus" which showcased many of the local pioneers.

From Sarah Wolfchild, the wife of O.H.Smith to Elizabeth Lane, the wife of George Lane.

And it's interesting that these two women are only known as the wives of someone as opposed to being stand alone names.

But it was definitely a different time and era. Fortunately times have changed and that's no longer the case, for the most part.

Some of the other standout women that helped shaped High River are Odette de Foras, a world class soprano that sang opera in Paris and throughout Europe.

And who could forget Florence "Flores" LaDue. One of the greatest trick ropers, man or woman.

There are many more woman that the Museum have profiles on and it's great to know that so many colourful, strong women helped shape High River.
