The Hike for Hospice is coming back this year for the seventh time and they're hoping you'd like to get your steps in and join them.

The major fundraiser for the Foothills Country Hospice is set for Sunday May 7th this year.

Fund development manager Shanon Maksymich explains why they really need your support.

"It costs us just over $1,000 per day per patient. Which is equivalent to about $3 million dollars per year.  AHS does support approximately 57 per cent of our operational funding however that does leave us with the challenge of raising approximately $1.3 to $1.4 million dollars per year."

Something new this year is you can take part in the usual 5 km route or you can now use a shorter 3km route.

Last year just over $40,000 was raised and they're hoping to crack the $50,000 dollar mark.

Maksymich says registration is now open and the hike coincides with the national hospice palliative care week.

Registration starts at noon on May 7th at the Okotoks curling rink with the hike getting underway at 1 p.m.

And if you're interested in sponsoring the event the deadline is April 15th.
