Kehr, Edgar Maxwell “Max” , of Vulcan, beloved husband of Betty, passed
away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on January 25,
2017 at the age of 84 years.

Max was born in Vulcan on September 25, 1932 to Edgar and Jessie Kehr.
Max took his schooling at Highland, Red Cross and Vulcan schools. In
1949-50, he attended Mount Royal College where he took Grade 11. He was
also active in amateur wrestling and basketball as well as hockey and
baseball. Max started playing hockey at the age of eleven which carried
on well into his forties.

In the spring of 1951 Max rented a quarter section from his father and
due to inclement weather, finally got the harvest completed in the
spring of 1952. Max also worked for Norman Pettie at Wheat Centre Motors
(where the old South Country Ford stands) until 1953. He also worked for
Russel Lawrence, Roy Walker and Hank Hughes in the White Rose Service
Station.

Max married Betty Train in Lethbridge on June 20, 1953. They raised a
family of four children - Peggy, Deberah, Morgan and Malcolm. Both Max
and Betty drove school bus for thirty two years.

Max and his family were very active in the community, participating in
4-H Light Horse and Vulcan Fish and Game Associations. There are many
great memories of trail rides and gymkhanas as well as hockey and many
other activities with the kids.

Max and Betty were Rebekah and Oddfellows committee members that helped
spearhead the Walk-A-thon for the new Skating arena in Vulcan. The
entire Kehr family walked and contributed to build the new arena and
along with playing hockey and coaching, Max and Betty were caretakers of
the arena from 1977 to 1979. After farming for 34 years, in the spring
of 1987, Max and Betty worked at the Kananaskis Inn for a time, picking
up a second contract lasting for eight years. Max was the Groundsman at
the Vulcan Golf Club for four years.

Besides a love of hockey, Max also loved camping, riding horses,
farming, family and his community.

Besides his loving wife Betty, Max is survived by his four children,
Peggy (Dave Jones)Bishop, Deberah (Graham) Beers, Morgan (Karry) and
Malcolm (Dale) Kehr, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren,
numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Jessie Kehr, brother Stanley
(Frances) Kehr, and his sister Marjorie Geddes.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:30
pm at Vulcan Central Church of Christ (409-1 St. S), Pastor David
Sarsons officiating. Private Family Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery Columbarium.
