The Kicking Horse Canyon Trans-Canada Highway has finally re-opened.

The 2-month closure caused a lot of slowdowns and headaches for motorists but now it'll save you up to an hour and a half.

The construction was finished up almost a week ahead of schedule as it was scheduled to re-open for Dec. 1st.

Hwy 1 upgrades include the widening of the highway to four lanes, some sections have been realigned creating more room for cyclists as well as being a buffer for falling rocks and avalanches.

Some overnight closures can still be expected for the rest of this year into the winter of 2023 but there are no plans for full closures until spring.

The fourth and final phase still needs to be completed and that's not expected until the winter of 2023-24.
