The province is investing in RAP for its students. Alberta has a growing enrollment in the Registered Apprenticeship Program, in which students earn credits, money and apprenticeship hours while still earning their High School Diploma.
Foothills Composite Vice Principle Peter Driedger says the program is filling a need caused by funding cuts.
He says the province isn't putting in the money it needs to in order to maintain many school shops because a welding, mechanic, and even carpentry shop requires a huge amount of money to maintain.
He says this is one way, the province sees, for kids to get a proper education.
Students in the program can also receive scholarships toward post secondary, and Driedger hopes to see that number grow locally as well.
