Kirk Sutherland is the 2016 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion as he beat out his son Mitch and High River's Jason Glass for the $100,000 pay day in Sunday night's "Dash for Cash" final.

For Sutherland it's his first ever Stampede crown and he says he has to give some credit to his brother Kelly Sutherland, who's won 12 times in Calgary, and earned the nickname, "The King."

"You know, I can't argue that he didn't coach me. I learned how to relax and turn the barrel's from Ralph Vigen. You've just go to relax, forget about the outside and go do your work. Everybody will get to it at a certain stage of their life."

Glass finished third in the race, while Vern Nolin, had a no time.

Okotoks Mark Sutherland had his best run of the week on the final night as he finished behind his Uncle Kirk with the second fastest time of the night.

High River's Jordie Fike was 32nd after knocking a barrel in heat two.

The driver's now pack up and head for the races in Bonnyville starting Thursday.
