It may soon cost Foothills towns a little more to be a part of the Marigold Library System.

For communities that have a library board, the proposed new rate is $7.54 per capita, which is an increase of 2.17-percent.

Director of Marigold, Michelle Toombs says they haven't increased their rates since 2006 and it's becoming necessary.

However, she says the change is still awaiting approval.

Municipalities have until the end of September to sign the new agreement and the change would be effective at the beginning of 2012.

High River, Okotoks and the Diamond Valley were among the original 15 members who signed on to the Marigold System in 1981.
