Two young students of Okotoks have been hard at work collecting bottles in order to donate the proceeds to the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Paige Kraus (12) and Blakely Dahl (9), of École Percy Pegler School, put the challenge out in early March of 2022 to the business community to help them match donations.

At the time they had raised only $700 but after hearing the challenge on the radio, members of the local Kinsmen Clubs stepped up.

Okotoks Kinsmen president Mike Rocheleau says as soon as they met they knew they would support them.

"Once we were able to communicate with them a little bit more and understand what they were trying to do. It was almost a no-brainer to vote as a club to give towards their foundation. We feel honoured to be able to have young ladies like this in our community."

He says he reached out to The Foothills Kinettes as well as the High River Kinsmen to match as well resulting in a $3000 donation to the cause.

The Foothills Kinettes is made up of all women from the Foothills and giving to the Alberta Children's Hospital hit's home for them says member Jenny Jones.

"Our hearts are with women and children, and so anything that has to do with that, we jump and the Children's Hospital is an amazing place for these children who have to go there...we were just touched by the stories. Not only the things that these young girls do, but also what other clubs are doing to help the children's hospital. So this is definitely something worth the $1000."

They hope to find 100 businesses to match the $1000 so they can donate $100,000 to the Alberta Children's Hospital.
