The Municipal District of Ranchland has won an Emerald Award in the government category for its extensive environmental work.

Over 350 individuals, groups, organizations and government bodies have been recognized for addressing local, regional, and global environmental and climate issues.

It's hoped the recognition of these efforts with the Emerald Award will inspire others towards environmental stewardship.

This year, the Alberta Emerald Foundation received nominations in 12 award categories from all corners of the province.

The Foundation says the Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66 prides itself as one of the most environmentally conscious municipalities in Alberta.

The MD is home to countless watersheds, rangelands, forests, and wildlife, and has made it a top priority to take care of them, reads the website.

Ranchland has consistently implemented creative solutions to environmental issues, according to the Foundation's website. The MD has gone above and beyond to promote activities that are sustainable and compatible with the environment and the species and habitats we share the landscape with.

Each of the awards is accompanied by a $2,000 grant.
