The Sandstone Lodge in Okotoks is raising money for a new TV and trying out a new style of fundraiser in the process.

General manager Barb Bell says the last two years have been restrictive in terms of the types of events that can be held, so the staff at Sandstone came up with a bit of a novel idea that will give Sandstone residents a chance to connect with the community.

"With COVID, it's changed a lot of our fundraisers because we do a lot of indoor things and invite the public in, but during these times we thought of a different way to still fundraise and engage the community, and we came up with driveby pie."

In essence, those interested can preorder the 10-inch pies with a minimum $25 donation, and once they're ready, donors can drop by Sandstone and meet the staff and residents when picking up the baked goods.

"The staff are making the fillings and the residents and staff will put the pies together. They will be unbaked and frozen, and then during April 13th and 14th there's certain hours where folks can come by and we'll be outside with their pie," says Bell.

They're offering apple, strawberry rhubarb, and mixed berry pies.

Proceeds will go toward a 75-inch television that will go in a new all-purpose entertainment room at Sandstone.

Those interested can contact Sandstone at (403) 938-2879 or email cindy.barron@westwindscommunities.ca

The deadline to order is April 7.
