Gerald John (Gerry) McIntyre passed away peacefully at the Long Term Care wing of the High River Hospital in High River, Alberta on April 13, 2016 at the age of 93 years.

Gerry was predeceased by his wife, Illo Mae in 2005 and his daughter, Ann Marie Soganic, in 2013. Gerry is survived by his children Wayne Soganic, Calgary, Alberta; Geri (Cal) Auten, Richmond, California; Nancy Thompson, High River, Alberta; Katie Thompson, High River, Alberta; Ian (Karen) McIntyre, Orleans, Ontario; Tom (Bev) Thompson, Drayton Valley, Alberta; Barb Higgins, Brighton, England; and Jane Brennan, Orleans, Ontario, as well as all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gerry is also survived by his sister, Bernie Thurston, Carleton Place, Ontario. Gerry was predeceased by his son-in-law, Alan Higgins, Winchester, England and his grandson, David Tress, Richmond, California.

Gerry was a past president and member of the board of directors for the Highwood Meadows Coop in High River. Gerry was a long serving member of the Canadian Army, a veteran of World War II serving in Europe and the Korean War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for forty-five years.

A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High River on Monday, April 18, 2016 with a visitation at 12:00 p.m., and service at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Highwood Cemetery, Pastor Tom Thompson officiating.

The family would like to thank the continuous and unselfish support and kindness provided to Gerry from his many caregivers including his longtime physician, Dr. Smillie, and the staff at the High River General Hospital Long Term Care wing.
