Calgary Stampeders running back Jerome Messam picked up a CFL player of the week award for his work Canada Day against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

He ran for 137 yards against the Bombers, a league best so far this season, on 16 carries for an average of 8.6 yards per rush including a 53-yard dash in the third quarter.

The total was just two yards shy of Messam's personal career best of 139, which he set in 2011.

Messam leads the CFL in rushing through two weeks of play with 153 yards.

The Stamps head to Ottawa this Friday to take on the Red Blacks.
