Sean Monahan broke out of a four game scoring slump with a goal and three helpers as the Flames took out the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 Wednesday night at the Dome.

Monahan says the Flames were full of confidence, which made all the difference.

"We were skating, putting pucks deep and generating chances. When you're getting chances early, that's when you get confidence as a group and obviously our line had a few chances early and that gives you that confidence when you're playing in their zone."

Dougie Hamilton with his seventh, Mark Giordano with his 12th and Johnny Gaudreau with his 21st goal of the season, were the other Flames goal scorers on the night.

The Flames host the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday.

In the meantime, the team will also appeal the 20 game suspension of defenceman Dennis Wideman handed down by the league Wednesday for abuse of an official back on January 27 against Nashville.
