The Highwood Mustang Senior Varsity boys brought home a bronze from the Oilfields high school basketball tournament in Diamond Valley on the weekend.

In the first game on Friday night, the Mustangs came from behind to defeat the Clearwater Academy Crusaders 84-67 In the semifinals.

That sent the Mustangs up against the provincially ranked Webber Academy Wildcats. 

Webber’s experience combined with their double-teaming defense was too much for the Mustangs and they lost by 51 points, 80-29.

The loss dropped them to the consolation final where the Mustangs faced the Foundations for the Future Charter School Phoenix where they scored another comeback win 82-77, to finish third in the tournament.

The Mustangs are back at it with several home games this week. 

Wednesday, January 31st, the Senior Varsity teams play the Strathcona Tweedsmuir Spartans. 

The boys take to the court at 5:30, with the girls at 7:00. 

The Junior Varsity teams are up against the Oilfields Drillers on Thursday, February 1st, again with the boys at 5:30 and the girls at 7:00.

The Senior Varsity girls will be away in Canmore for a tournament next weekend. 

The Junior Varsity boys will at Notre Dame Collegiate for their tournament. 

Their first game is Friday at 4:15 against the Canmore Wolverines.
