Canada’s newly appointed Agriculture Minister ventured into downtown Calgary this week to highlight the government’s commitment to supporting women in agriculture.
Marie-Claude Bibeau, who is also the country’s first female Agriculture Minister, announced Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) new Women Entrepreneur program at the Advancing Women in Agriculture conference on Tuesday, March 12.
The program includes access to capital through the Women Entrepreneur Loan, where FCC has committed to providing a total of $500 million in lending capital over three years.
“The idea is to make it easier for them to get loans, and also to support them in building their networks and all the capital they need to be successful in business,” Bibeau says.
The loan also allows borrowers to have a portion of their fees waved.
Bibeau has been touring the country, saying she wants to send a strong message she cares about the West by engaging with them as soon as possible.
