One of the certainties in life is taxes.... even if you're the Foothills School Division. The Division has been lobbying the federal government to receive a full G-S-T rebate, similar to municipalities.
Treasurer Drew Chipman says even though the division already gets a partial rebate, it should be more.
He says they are appreciative of getting 68% back, but because they're a government entity, the government is really just taxing themselves.
As a result, the Division loses out because Government provides 98% of the funding and the Division has to pay some of that back.
The feds recently said they wouldn't change the rebate, which according to Chipman, would mean an extra $350 000 a year for the Division.
