Mamma Mia! is coming to High River.

The Windmill Theatre Players has been rehearsing for months and months but it's been years in the making.

Director Karen King, who's been with the High River theatre group for over 37 years, explains...

"I first saw it in New York city in 2004. I went 'Oh, I can't wait for the amateur rights to come up!'.  It took almost twenty years before the amateur rights came up so, when it came up I immediately said 'We're doing it!'  That was 2020 and then Covid said 'no you're not doing it'.

It finally all came together two years later and as far as what the performance is all about, King says it's basically a romantic comedy.

"It's about a seventies girl and a nineties girl. The seventies girl, she met up with three different guys and it produced a baby, she doesn't know which one the dad is. The daughter, twenty years later, set in the nineties, she wants to find out who her dad is so she invites them (all three) to the wedding."

The dinner theatre musical is filled with music from ABBA and debuts on Thursday April 21 and runs until Saturday April 30.
