Nick Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) scored his first AJHL goal in dramatic fashion, tallying the overtime winner to give the Okotoks Oilers (23-20-2) a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday night.

The win was the Oilers’ fifth consecutive on home ice, as they outshot the Kodiaks 33-25 in the game despite a 3-1 power play disadvantage.

Okotoks’ opening goal came on the team’s only power play of the game, as Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) tipped in a point shot from Kade Turner (Calgary, AB) for a 1-0 lead.

Camrose responded with a Tio D’Addario breakaway goal at 11:27, and managed a tie with Okotoks through 20 minutes despite a whopping 18-4 shot advantage for the home side.

But Camrose took control in the second, outshooting the Oilers 13-5 and taking the lead on a Noah Alvarez point shot tip at 2:14.

In the third, with the Oilers pulling their goalie on a delayed penalty, Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) came off the bench and took a cross-ice pass from Riley Bodnarchuk (Okotoks, AB), one-timing the puck home to tie the game 2-2.

Late in the third, the Oilers were put on a five-minute penalty kill after a fighting major against forward Ethan Jamernik (Calgary, AB), but successfully killed it off and nearly took the lead on a shorthanded odd man rush.

In the extra frame, Wolfenberg’s goal came after an extended offensive zone possession from Sam Huck (Calgary, AB), who left the puck for the rookie Oiler defenceman to wheel behind the net, come out in front, turn and fire home a wrist shot to send the Oilers streaming off the bench.

Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) made 23 saves on 25 Camrose shots to extend his record to 10-5-1.

The Oilers will play their next two games at home, starting with a Tuesday night matchup with the Canmore Eagles.

Puck drop is at 7:00 PM with tickets available at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
