The Okotoks Oilers (6-1) will look to start off the month of October the same way they ended September... on a high note.

The Oilers host a pair of games this Thanksgiving weekend as they welcome the Olds Grizzlys (3-3-2) to Pason Centennial Arena.

Oilers forward Nolan Thompson says with the team 6-1 through the first seven games there's still plenty to work on.

"We've been playing well but there's obviously room to be better," he says. "We've had a couple games that we really haven't played great hockey but I think we've been putting in good work this week and for the Olds game we're processing it like any other South Division rival we have to come away with two points."

The Oilers won the season series 5-1 against Olds in 2015-16.

After the Grizzlys it will be the Brooks Bandits back in town, the last time these two clubs met it was the Oilers getting outshot but had the last laugh winning 2-1 in overtime.  They now lead their season series with the Bandits 2-0.

Thompson says despite the final look at the shot clock where the Bandits were in complete control 50-20, there's two sides to the story.

"A lot of those shots came from the outside, I mean (Riley) Morris was unreal he didn't give up pretty much any second chances and if he did he was there. Hopefully we figure it out, I mean we can't be giving up 50 shots and winning games too often that just doesn't happen. I think we'll be focused on defence a lot more."

Thompson, now into his third year with the green and gold, says the experience of his team has been a huge factor to why the team is off to a quick start.

"This first bit of the season you can really take advantage of teams that haven't quite had the time together and they haven't figured their stuff out yet. I think that's the advantage we have but soon even people will start coming around and teams will start forming and we just have to focus on advancing as a team."

The Oilers face-off against the Grizzlys and Bandits Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m.
