The Oilers opened the scoring late in the first period when Brody Spencer-Ha, who hails from Foothills County, tapped in a rebound of a shot by American Jake McCall.

Okotoks doubled its lead in the second when Bennett Johnson, another U.S. import, tipped in the puck for a 2-0 Oilers lead.

Shaw Cathcart scored for the Canucks to pull them within one goal, but the Oilers sealed it with an empty netter by Ethan Jamernik from Calgary.

The Oilers and Canucks play twice this coming weekend, first in Okotoks at the Pason Centennial Arena on Friday night, then in Calgary at Henry Viney Arena on Saturday.

Both games are at 7 p.m.
