A free guided tour is planned for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9 in honour of the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

On April 12, 1917, the Canadian Infantry accomplished something amazing and gave a name and reputation to Canada.

The tour will take place on Veterans Way with Okotoks Museum and Archives Specialist Kathy Coutts.

Coutts says is open for anyone to learn about the brave men who fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

"Focusing on stories of those from Okotoks and District who participated in the battle and paying special attention to those who lost their lives."

She is happy to see the tours return.

"The tours of the veterans wall were quite popular pre COVID and so I'm hoping that this will be the first of many tours off the wall that I'll be doing over the spring and summer. Sharing the history of our war heroes."

She adds some may remember the day under a different name.

"Originally called Birth of a Nation Day and in the last few years become more known as Vimy Ridge Day."

Those interested can meet at the wall on Veterans Way at 10 am.
