The Okotoks RCMP is reminding locals looking to cool off at the Sheep River to stay safe.

Their latest Mountie Minute release included some reminders now that the river is likely to see more visitors.

That includes a warning not to jump off of walking or train bridges into the water due to the large rocks in the riverbed and the river's depth.

River goers should also check the speed and strength of the current before wading in.

They're also reminding Okotokians that the consumption of alcohol by the river is illegal and could result in a $120 fine for those in contravention.

The May 22-28 Mountie Minute also included stats from the week:

Last week Okotoks RCMP responded to a total of 109 calls for service including 3 Crimes Against Persons; 13 Property/Theft Crimes; 19 Motor Vehicle Collisions; 2 Suspicious Persons; 4 Mental Health Act; 2 Missing Person; 2 Domestic Violence calls; and 1 Animal related calls. There were 48 calls of common Police Activities (lost/found items, 911 hang ups, alarms, driving complaints, abandoned vehicles).
