The Okotoks Rotary Club’s flag program is back again.

It’s a subscription service where locals can pay $60 and in return, Rotary members will install and remove a Canadian flag on three long weekends of the year.

Those are Victoria Day weekend, Canada Day weekend, and Labour Day weekend.

Past President Jeff Foss says the flags remain up for a good stretch of time.

“We put the flags up in the case of Victoria Day, two weekends ahead, and in case of the others, one weekend ahead. Then we take them down the weekend after the long weekend so that they’re kept in good order.”

The program acts as a fundraiser for the local Rotary Club.

“The funding goes straight into our Rotary Club here in Okotoks. We use that for our youth and community programs. Some of the youth programs include our Youth Entrepreneurship Camp, our Rotary Youth Leadership Camp, and our Rotary Youth Exchange.”

They’re offering about 300 slots this year, and they’re always looking at adding more each year.

“We’ve been expanding it incrementally. We did a bit of a pause on it during COVID, but we expect it to sell out this year and we’ll expand it next year,” says Foss.
