After completing a new building last year the Foothills Recycling and Salvage Society is getting noticed across Western Canada.

Prospective clients interested in starting their own salvage centres are contacting the society looking for guidance.

General manager Jamie Myles says they've been asked to speak at a conference in Saskatchewan.

"The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council is putting on a waste forum in April and they've asked us to come and be one of their speakers," says Myles.

Clientele began to rise after the opening of a new 11,000 square foot building in December.

Myles says after that is was simply word of mouth that brought more people in.

"I think that the general public is just talking a lot more about it and there is so much manpower that goes into the day to day operations that we haven't done a huge amount as far as promoting ourselves goes."

Myles adds that since all the money raised goes to local charities, the uniqueness of the centre also contributed to its success.

"When we expanded and were able to be a bit more organized and take in more stuff that wasn't going be to left outside, I think that transition just made people think that it is a great thing," says Myles.

Myles says it couldn't have happened without the support of the community and tireless work from volunteers.
