Open House at Fire Hall brings out hundreds

The Open House at the High River Fire Hall brought out hundreds of people yesterday, Saturday May 6.

Smiles were everywhere as it was an opportunity for the public to tour the fire hall and meet the people behind emergency services.

People of all ages were on hand on Saturday for the Open House.

Firefighters, bylaw enforcement and emergency management personnel were on hand happy to answer any questions.

Folks gathered inside the Fire Hall out of the rain.

The Salvation Army were also on hand with an Emergency Disaster Services trailer helping to serve up food along with the Kinsmen Club of High River with support from High River Sobeys.

The burgers and salads were getting a lot of compliments while some conversations drifted towards concern and support for firefighters battling the wildfires in Central and Northern Alberta.

A team from the High River Fire department have already made their way up to help battle the wildfires with more on standby if needed.

While the rain and drizzle put a slight dent into the turnout for the Open House there were still hundreds of people that showed up to take part in the four-hour event from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Kids and grownups alike were able to sit in the firetrucks and bylaw enforcement vehicles with the lights on and pepper officers with questions. 

Inside the hall local organizations that support the entire team were set up as well to answer any questions.  

Canadian Red Cross and Citizens on Patrol were on hand inside the Fire Hall.

ATCO Gas and Fortis Alberta were also set up with a fun hands-on display about electricity and safety.
