A pair of local physicians were honoured at the High River District Health Care Foundation's Dinner and Auction last weekend.

Executive Director Wendy Kennelly says the Clifford and Louise Lougheed Award was presented to Dr. Keith Spackman and Dr. Ron Gorsche.

"They have been supporting the Foundation, they have been champions for as long as they've been practicing here and it was nice to hear their stories, a couple of funny stories about working together here over the years but most importantly their connection to community and what a world of a difference it's made for their careers," Kennelly says.

AHS Director, Rural Health Lise Brisebois Blouin noted that "in addition to caring for our community Ron and Keith have been stalwart advisors and contributors to the work the Foundation has done. Two of their strongest allies was with their patient and the medical staff. They have always ensured that new physicians understood the impact that this community has had on local health care through the Foundation. They have been true friends and advocates of the Foundation for years."

The Foundation also took time to honour last year's award recipient, Michelle Ball of Brant Lake Wagyu for her efforts on the board and support of the Foundation.

She wasn't able to be recognized publicly last year because the pandemic put the event on hold.

Kennelly says the recognition is much deserved "especially with her commitment to volunteering on the board and being a long-time sponsor of the Dinner and Auction she's a special champion as well of all of our work."

This Award was named in honour of Clifford and Louise Lougheed who were long-time residents of the Nanton area. Their bequest to the Foundation enabled the Foundation to establish a permanent Endowment Fund which is the backbone of its long-term financial viability.

It's in the spirit of Clifford and Louise’s generosity, that the award is presented each year.
