We're another step closer to the replacement for Good Shepherd School in Okotoks being built.

In March, it was announced that the province would be funding a replacement for the elementary school along with other projects as part of a public-private partnership (P3) bundle.

P3 bundles are a method of getting infrastructure projects completed in an efficient and cost-effective way, with a recently completed P3 bundle of five schools having saved the provincial government $114.5 million, according to a recent media release.

The province recently provided an update, saying that two proponents from the Request for Qualifications stage are now participating in the Request for Proposals stage.

It's expected that a contract will be in place by early 2025, and construction on the P3 bundle including the replacement for Good Shepherd will start next summer.

The decision to replace Good Shepherd came after an analysis of the roof structure at the existing school. It was determined that building a new school would be less disruptive to students than remediating the current structure.

The full list of schools from the P3 bundle are:

  • K-8 school in Airdrie SW, Rocky View Schools
  • K-5 school in Blackfalds, Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools
  • K-9 school in Calgary Nolan Hill, Calgary Catholic School District
