Commuters were faced with major delays on Highway 2 north of Okotoks yesterday evening after a two-vehicle collision.

According to RCMP Media Relations, the collision happened at around 5:23 p.m. between the Okotoks overpass and the Highway 2-2A split.

A vehicle had stalled on the road, and a pickup truck swerved to avoid hitting it.

The truck successfully avoided the vehicle, but another car behind it struck the stalled car from behind.

The stalled vehicle was left on its side as a result of the collision, trapping the driver, who had to be extracted.

STARS Air Ambulance transported the driver to hospital with serious injuries.

Though the other car sustained extensive damage, the driver only sustained minor injuries.
