The popular Okotoks fix-it program is back in its normal format once again.

The Town is hosting a Repair Café this Saturday at the Pason Centennial Arena. The intention of the café is to reduce landfill waste by matching residents with volunteer "fixer coaches" who use their know-how to repair broken and malfunctioning belongings.

The event is designed to help keep the Town from producing more unnecessary waste, and as the event grows in scope it's hoped that the town's waste will decrease.

Jinny Toffelmire Environment and Sustainability Specialist for the Town says they'll take anything.

"Small appliances, electronics, home textiles, housewares, furniture, toys, you name it."

The Repair Café runs this Saturday, March 26th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

"People can just come and drop by. We've got nice volunteers. We've got someone who will come and fix your bike. I think it's going to be a busy day."

The volunteers at the café see a variety of household items, furniture and bikes brought in and are itching to get back at it after years of pre-registration, postponement and cancellations.

"We even cancelled the last one we were supposed to have in January so we haven't had one since October and before then they were virtual so this is our first, quote normal one in the last two years." says Toffelmire.

Accepted items include electronics such as gaming consoles, CD players and DVD players. Small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers or lamps. Smaller pieces of furniture, toys, clothing or housewares.

Some items will be turned away including microwaves and vacuums.
