April 8, 1926 – May 18, 2016

A resident of Innisfail, Al was born and raised in Edmonton and lived in Calgary and High River. Al died peacefully surrounded by family after a short illness in the Red Deer Regional Hospital. He is survived by his adored wife Irene and daughters Christene Gordon and Trudy Fonau; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Kari Gordon (Craig Smith) Lachlan Gordon; Corrie Brown (Tim McLean) Taylor and Brianne McLean; Jeremy Brown, Taryn and Nolan Brown and their mother, Jana. Al is preceded in death by his first wife Winn and sons in law, Colin Gordon and Hans Kuhlwein.

Missing Al will be Irene’s children; Brian McCrindle (Kerry Mader), Terry McCrindle (Kathy), Marianne Nicholson and their families as well as Winn’s brothers Bruce (Maude) Clarke and Sandy (Marilyn) Clarke and nieces and nephews from the Clarke family.

Al started his apprenticeship with and worked for many years for Johnson Brothers Electric before starting his own business in High River. He was an avid volunteer in the community, serving on Town Council, the Board of the Highwood Golf Club, delivering Meals On Wheels and driving for Handibus. Al was a dedicated blood donor and received recognition for a hundred donations over his life time.

Al had a life-long love of sport as both a participant and fan. He was a high point bowler but hockey, golf, and curling were his favourites and latterly you could find him glued to a game with his cat Arnie stretched out on his lap.

Irene and Al enjoyed a number of winters at their home in Arizona and made many friends. Al would say that Irene added years to his life and life to his years. Irene has been a blessing and words are not enough to recognise her contribution to the quality of Al’s life.

A get together of family and friends on April 17th to mark the occasion of Al’s 90th birthday was a wonderful way to celebrate a long life, well lived. Al thoroughly enjoyed the day of meeting up with old friends and reminiscing about times gone by.

The family is grateful for the unconditional love that Al gave to them. His life has ended, but his legacy of wisdom, integrity, courage and determination will go on forever.. he will be sorely missed.

In recognition of Al’s love for animals and his support for animal rescue, donations to the Alberta SPCA, 10806 124th Street Edmonton AB T5M 0H3, would be greatly appreciated.

A private family service will be held at a later date. To express condolences please visit www.snodgrassfuneralhomes.com Arrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Homes Ltd. (High River) 403 652 2222
