Ruby Sirons (Elder, Gremm) history

Born in 1918 in High River AB, Ruby passed away June 23 at Mayfair Care Centre in Calgary. Ruby attended the Public School in the Elite district NE of High River and High River High School (1937 – 1938) and graduated from Calgary General Hospital as an RN in 1942. For several years she practiced private duty nursing and then returned to the Calgary General Hospital where she became assistant supervisor in surgery from 1954 – 1957.


Ruby married Robert (Bob) Elder in 1943, they were separated in 1959 and Bob passed away in 1966.  In 1959 Ruby moved to Kitchener, ON, the birthplace of her parents and worked and the K-W Hospital until 1961 when she became interested in community health and moved to Montreal to take Gynecology post graduate courses at the Royal Victoria Hospital.  In 1965 Ruby graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Nursing and a Public Health Diploma and was the nurse in charge at the Victorian Order of Nurses North Waterloo Branch in Kitchener from 1965 to 1969. Ruby married George Sirons in 1969, they lived in Guelph, ON where George worked as a herbicide analyst chemist for the ON Ministry of Agriculture and Ruby accepted a position as Director of Public Health Nursing for the Wellington-Duffin-Guelph Health Unit. They enjoyed their many friends, extended families and traveling during retirement. They moved to AB in 2000 where George passed away in 2001.


Ruby is survived by a step daughter in St. Catherines, ON, 4 nieces and 1 nephew all residing in AB, and was predeceased by 1 Nephew in 2005.

A Funeral Service remembering Ruby will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River.
