A new school mural will soon adorn the inside of Spitzee Elementary School.

The mural will be designed and painted by local aboriginal artist Jared Tailfeathers.

Principal Shannon Culbert said the opportunity came from a chance encounter when he called the school.

"I understand that you are an artist and we're looking to build relationships and to advance our Truth and Reconciliation work and are just wondering if you know, we could talk more about that."

Tailfeathers has a child who attends the school, and the Town of High River just recently gave funding approval for $4,000 for it.

The funding was approved by the Community Vitality Advisory Committee.

Tailfeathers was recently picked as one of the Top 40 Under 40 according to Avenue Magazine from Calgary.
