Fort Macleod's RCMP rang in the New Year responding to a report that a man had been stabbed numerous times at a house in town.

The call came in at 3:56 a.m. on New Year's Day and when police arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. 

The male was transported to a Lethbridge hospital and was then transferred to Calgary via STARS in serious condition where he continues his recovery.

The RCMP arrested the stabbing suspect who remained at the scene.

26-year-old Sterling Mikel White from Fort Macleod has been charged with aggravated assault and was remanded into custody.

White is scheduled to appear in Fort Macleod provincial court on January 11.
